Acts: Chapter 21

Paul was anxious to reach Jerusalem before the day of Pentecost and, having asked to speak to the elders in Ephesus, he caused concern among them by saying that they would not see him again. Luke describes the emotional scene as Paul left them at the end of Acts 20. Acts 21 v 1-3 Luke gives a port to port description of Paul’s journeys.

In Chapter 19, we left Paul in Ephesus having been involved in a riot. The town clerk restored order and the disciples were unscathed.

The apostle Paul’s 2nd Journey with fellow travellers, Silas and Timothy, continues.

The next stop was Thessalonica, a Grecian city with enough Jewish residents to warrant a Synagogue. You may have noticed that although Paul was keen to spread the gospel to the gentiles, he usually began by contacting the Jewish community.

Having been thrown out of Antioch in Pisidia, Paul and Barnabas went to Iconium. They preached in the synagogue. Verse 1 records that Jews, gentiles and Greeks believed but the Jews stirred up the gentiles and the apostles fled to Lystra and Derbe.
